San Francisco ranks #1 for tech talent markets in U.S. and Canada

by Jody Barhanovich

The San Francisco Bay Area ranks as the top tech talent market in the United States and Canada, according to CBRE’s 2018 Scoring Tech Talent report.

The top five rankings include Seattle (2), Washington, D.C. (3), Toronto (4) and New York (5). Markets registering the greatest rise in the rankings are Cleveland, Columbus, Ohio, and San Diego.

Tech talent growth, primarily within the high-tech industry, has generated significant real estate demand, and when highly concentrated in a market often puts upward pressure on prices and creates opportunities for new development, according to CBRE.

Tech talent job growth has accelerated in 23 of 50 markets as well, with notable surges in Ottawa, Los Angeles and Madison, Wis.

In regards to the highest cost markets, San Francisco also comes in first, followed by New York (2), Washington D.C. (3), Seattle (4) and Newark (5).

CBRE’s 2018 Scoring Tech Talent is a comprehensive analysis of labor market conditions, cost and quality in the United States and Canada for highly skilled tech workers. You can find the full report here.
