Manufactured housing plays key role in U.S. affordability

Manufactured housing, which typically costs about half as much as a standard site-built home, continues to play a significant role in U.S. housing affordability, according to Storage Café. Although present across the country, its distribution varies, with some areas having substantially more capacity to offer diverse housing options than others.

At the city level, Mesa, Ariz., has the largest overall inventory, with approximately 29,300 mobile homes. Largo, Fla., has the highest share, with mobile homes accounting for about 28 percent of its housing stock.

Nationally, there are roughly 7.9 million manufactured or mobile home units, representing about 5.4 percent of all housing stock. Regionally, the Sunbelt contains the largest concentration, both by share and by total units.
