Knight Frank: Financial returns key to ESG strategies

by Andrea Zander

Knight Frank has published the second edition of its ESG Property Investor Survey, with the results demonstrating that institutional investors are increasingly leveraging environmental, social and governance (ESG) strategies to create and preserve long-term value.

Enhanced returns are cited by 63 percent of the 40 investors surveyed as a driver for ESG implementation. The emphasis on financial performance, follows a time of economic constraint and scrutiny of ESG as a business imperative, adding pertinence to the industry’s continued commitment.

Knight Frank’s initial ESG Property Investor Survey, undertaken in June 2023, focused on ESG and property investments in the United Kingdom and Europe, but the second iteration at the end of 2024 has a more global scope. This updated survey gathered responses from 40 investors between November and December 2024, representing assets under management totaling at least £140
