J.P. Morgan’s George Ahl retires

George Ahl, managing director and client portfolio manager for J.P. Morgan Asset Management – Global Real Assets’ Real Estate Americas, has retired.

Ahl started his career in 1984 as associate of corporate finance at Merrill Lynch. He worked at Merrill until 1988 before moving to LaSalle Partners as vice president of investment management. While at LaSalle, Ahl was a member of a three-person team responsible for managing and repositioning a $3.5 billion foreign-owned real estate investment portfolio to improve operating and investment performance.

In April 2016, Ahl was hired by J.P. Morgan and was responsible for raising capital and advising clients for the firm’s Real Estate Americas investment platform, which has more than $60 billion in gross assets under management and 220 professionals.

Before moving to J.P. Morgan, Ahl served as managing director at Forum Partners, a private equity firm specializing in investments in small and mid-size companies, where he was responsible for capital markets activities and product development, with a primary focus in North America.

Ahl’s longest tenure was with M3 Capital Partners, where he served as principal from 1997 to 2013. While at M3 Capital, Ahl raised in excess of $5 billion of equity from institutional investors, including state and corporate pension plans, sovereign wealth funds, investment managers, insurance companies, endowments, foundations and funds of funds.

Earlier in his career, Ahl worked at UBS as vice president and portfolio management/marketing from 1996 to 1997. Before UBS, he worked at Crimson Capital Corporation as an adviser and managing director.
