Overall retail visits were down 1.8 percent during second quarter year-over-year (y-o-y), according to Placer.ai in its index white paper titled Second Quarter 2023 Quarterly Index. Placer.ai’s Index analyzes foot traffic data for numerous brands across seven subsectors: fitness, car wash, discount & dollar stores, grocery stores, dining, superstores, and malls.
Among the subsectors, discount & dollar stores, superstores, and grocery stores may serve as the best overall bellwethers for the current state of the retail economy.
