University of Michigan endowment reports 5.2% return for fiscal year

by Lewis Dayton

The University of Michigan’s endowment, valued at $17.9 billion, generated a 5.2 percent return for the fiscal year that ended June 30.

During the past 20 years, the university’s endowment has yielded annualized returns of 9.9 percent.

Don Jordan, senior public affairs representative for the University of Michigan, wrote in The University Record that the 5.2 percent return comes as the university “continues to ramp up its investments in energy-transition strategies, which includes $590 million in investments over the last three years.”

In reference to the heightened commitment to energy-transition strategies, Jordan reported that CIO Erik Lundberg said, “These investments continue to be a major contributor to the positive investment performance.”
