U.S.-focused funds dominate the markets

There are approximately 901 real estate investment funds currently in the market seeking a total of $546.25 billion, according to Institutional Real Estate FundTracker. Diversified funds dominate at 59 percent.

The majority of the funds currently in the market are focused on U.S. markets. Approximately 382 funds are in the market with a North American geographic focus, representing $220.89 billion in total targeted equity. There are 315 funds with a European focus, or 35 percent, and there are 82 funds with an Asia geographic focus.

Regarding strategy, core and core-plus funds lead the pack, representing 33 percent of the total, seeking $249.23 billion in capital. Debt and multifamily funds are the second most numerous at 10 percent each.
