Off-site manufacturing is becoming increasingly cost-effective, safe and environmentally friendly as a construction option. That is one of the takeaways from a new report from Moddex, an Australian manufacturer of barrier systems for large-scale infrastructure and non-residential construction projects.
Though the report focuses on Australia’s construction industry, it said the observed trends and findings are found in other markets as well.
Off-site manufacturing — “the process by which construction items are planned, designed and manufactured at a location separate to the construction site,” according to the report — is a way to expedite projects. And as Australia’s construction industry is projected to grow at an annual rate of 3.1 percent from 2024 to 2027, expediting projects is a pressing consideration.
Moddex dispels various myths surrounding off-site manufacturing, such as the misconception that off-site manufacturing equals inferior quality.
