Rhode Island taps Andrew Junkin as new CIO

by Kali Persall

Andrew Junkin, former president of Wilshire Consulting, has been hired as CIO at the office of the general treasurer for the state of Rhode Island.

In May, Alec Stais, the former CIO of the Employees’ Retirement System of Rhode Island, left his position to pursue a CIO role at a healthcare system located in Renton, Wash.

Junkin stepped into his new role on June 22, according to a statement by Rhode Island general treasurer Seth Magaziner.

Having served as both the managing director and president at Wilshire, Junkin worked with public and corporate pension funds, foundations, endowments, and insurance companies. In the former role, he acted as an investment consultant, specializing in asset allocation and manager selection.

Junkin also held positions at Asset Services Co. and Merrill Lynch, according to his LinkedIn page.
