Self-storage construction starts increased in first quarter, with 2024 deliveries expected to be higher than Yardi Matrix’s prior supply forecast. But starts will likely slow, given the recession expected in 2024, dampening deliveries in 2025-2028.
While the 2023 under-construction pipeline has been relatively stable, the planned pipeline has
continued to expand. There now are 113.8 million rentable square feet in the planned pipeline. This represents an 8.2 percent increase over quarter-ago levels and a 32.4 percent increase over year-ago levels.
