The Phoenix City Council has agreed to help finance the $235 million renovation of the 30-year-old downtown Talking Stick Resort Arena, home to the NBA’s Phoenix Suns, Phoenix Mercury, Arizona Rattlers and numerous concerts and other live events.
The Phoenix City Council will be committing approximately $150 million to the project, and the Suns will contribute $80 million. The city will fund its portion of the renovations through its Sports Facilities Fund, which is composed of tourism taxes on hotels and rental cars.
Renovations will include repair and replacement of mechanical, electrical and plumbing infrastructure for the arena. Renovation is expected to be completed in 2021.
