U.S. office attendance rebounds in September, driven by new in-office mandates

Office properties around the United States saw a wave of foot traffic in the past month, making September the third-busiest in-office month since the pandemic, according to the data in the Placer.ai Office Index September update. The increase coincided with new in-office requirements from companies such as Intel and Toyota, which began requiring employees to work on-site at least four days a week.

Office visits in September were 26.3 percent below 2019 levels — an improvement from August and roughly in line with June’s activity. While the additional working day in September compared with prior years contributed to the increase, it does not fully explain the recovery. Overall, the data suggests that office attendance continues to fluctuate but remains on a gradual path toward stabilization.To read the full report,
