Movie theaters to rebound in 2022

Movie theaters will rebound in 2022 with the numerous highly anticipated films scheduled for 2022, such as Marvel and DC movies, according to Households are leaving the home, seeking experiences, a retail trend that was popular, prior to COVID.

The return to theaters trend was prevalent with the release of Spider-Man: No Way Home, which was released as the Omicron surge was gaining momentum, but still managed to gross $260 million in North America on opening weekend at AMC theaters. Foot traffic data peaked at a 1,331.5 percent increase in visits on Sunday, Dec. 18, when compared to a Nov. 1 baseline.

The Spiderman movie led a three-week surge in AMC foot traffic that impacted both weekend and weekday visits, despite the COVID wave that was sweeping the nation.
