IREI’s insights: A decade of property type trends

IREI has been conducting its Annual Investor Survey for 29 years. This survey is foundational to developing our Institutional Investor Real Estate Trends Report and more broadly gauging investor sentiment for the year moving forward as we build out our other programs. Over the years, the questions we ask investors have evolved as investor sophistication and property types have evolved. One segment of the report that many people spend a lot of time dissecting is the “preferred property type” section — not surprising, since this can give investment managers insight into what to expect when attempting to raise capital for certain strategies. For example, raising a data center fund is easier today than 15 years ago, when it was still a relatively unknown property type.
