The demand for green buildings is far outpacing supply, at a time when more than 60 percent of carbon emissions in cities are coming from buildings, according to JLL in a recent report.
Demand for sustainable buildings continues to exceed supply. Corporate demand for sustainable buildings is soaring, but only 34 percent of future demand for low-carbon workplaces will be met in the next several years; in fact, for every 3 square meters of demand, only 1 square meter is in the current pipeline. The supply/demand imbalance is especially dire in cities, where aging stock is unlikely to comply with future regulations and carbon reduction commitments.
