GPIF introduces asset manager system search

Japan’s Government Pension Investment Fund has introduced its Asset Manager Registration System for Alternative Assets for its previously reported plan to recruit alternative investments management firms.

The system was put in place to help GPIF collect information of various investment strategies, have more flexibility on manager selection, and to have access to new investment ideas and expertise of asset managers, according to a statement.

GPIF is searching for asset managers in global infrastructure, real estate and private equity. The infrastructure asset class will invest mainly in core, brown field infrastructure funds, while the real estate will invest in core real estate funds mainly in developed countries.
