Chinese investment in Australia totaled A$15.4b in 2016
Chinese overseas direct investment into Australia totaled A$15.4 billion ($11.5 billion) in 2016 across all sectors, up 12 percent on the previous year, according to the Demystifying Chinese Investment in Australia report conducted by KPMG and the University of Sydney.
The commercial real estate sector attracted the most capital from Chinese investors, totaling A$5.6 billion ($4.22 billion), or 36 percent of the total. Approximately 51 percent of the investment in commercial real estate went into residential development projects, up from 27 percent in 2015.
The second largest was the infrastructure sector, totaling A$4.3 billion ($3.2 billion), which at 28 percent of the total marked a record year for the sector.
