Ecommerce sales across Europe are expected to increase by $298 billion from 2020 to 2025, requiring an additional 298 million square feet of industrial warehouse and distribution space to meet growing demand in this sector, according to CBRE.
Total ecommerce sales across Europe increased by 150 percent over the last five years, with online sales rising from 7 percent of the total sales market in 2015 to 13 percent of the market in 2020.
CBRE estimates that every additional $1 billion of ecommerce sales globally requires 1 million square feet of new distribution space. Globally, ecommerce sales are expected to increase by $1.5 trillion in the next five years, requiring an additional 1.5 billion square -feet of ecommerce-related logistics space, with 298 million of that space needed in European countries.
