Caroline James, director and founder, has launched Selborne James, a U.K.-based independent capital advisory firm.
“As we are now going into unchartered territory with the coronavirus outbreak, I expect to see some parallels with life post-Lehman — investors on hold because of the denominator impact from the stock markets, fund managers to be focused on managing their portfolios and getting to grips with their exposure,” said James. “Fund raises to be extended, questions over pricing of seeded portfolios, lots of investors looking for distressed opportunities. The distressed opportunities post the GFC felt like fair game, as they largely came about through too much leverage and greed. The current situation is causing and will cause real societal pain and with so much emphasis on ESG I wonder how these opportunities will pan out.”
