Women face parenting challenges, stress in COVID-19 work environment

Nearly two-thirds of women in the green building industry believe the pandemic has negatively impacted gender equity in the workplace, according to a survey of nearly 500 professionals by the U.S. Green Building Council.

USGBC’s Women in the Workplace 2020 report found 62 percent of women feel the pandemic has negatively impacted gender equity in the workplace, while 7 percent feel there has been a positive impact and 31 percent say there has been no impact at all.

“Women are a vital portion of the workforce. They often bring new viewpoints to male-dominated fields. However, women shoulder the burden when children cannot go to school. Often, it is a woman who needs to take time off of work or quit their job to take care of kids or sick family,” said one respondent.
