When size is not an advantage: High-tech, high-touch revisited
It has become a truism of the age of networks that the larger the network, the more powerful it is.
First, of course, you need to define what a network is. A network, technically, is a series of nodes connected to one another in a variety of one-to-one, one-to-many, many-to-one or many-to-many relationships. The subscribers to social media sites such as Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and LinkedIn constitute a network.
And, as I noted in my column in the April 2023 issue, the readership of this publication constitutes a network, as do the subscribers to our daily news alert services and other information resources, such as our IREI.Q databases.
Networks become more powerful as they become larger because the number of connections between nodes in the network increase geometrically as the number of nodes expands.
