Real estate secondaries hit record number of deals

In its annual tally of global real estate secondaries activity, Landmark Partners tracked 99 closed or under contract real estate secondary transactions in 2016, the largest number of individual transactions recorded in a single year. The secondary transaction activity in 2016 represents growth of approximately 8 percent on the number of transactions logged in 2015. Aggregate net asset value at the time of sale totaled approximately $5.01 billion, according to Landmark Partners.

Although the total number of transactions increased, the aggregate dollar volume of net asset value traded declined in 2016. This was driven by the absence of mega-portfolio transactions (greater than $1 billion), which contributed significantly to the prior year’s record $8.2 billion total real estate secondary transaction volume.
