Nippon Life, Blackstone form strategic alliance

Nippon Life Insurance Co has entered into a memorandum of understanding for a comprehensive strategic partnership with Blackstone to provide investment management services in the private credit and real estate sectors.

In private credit, Nippon Life expects to allocate approximately 1.5 trillion yen (US$9.4 billion) in new capital to Blackstone during the next five years for deployment in private credit and structured credit strategies.

In real estate, Nippon Life will seek to advance initiatives to maximise the value of its properties with the support of Blackstone’s asset management capabilities. The effort will target approximately a dozen properties, including large-scale urban assets. Blackstone invests thematically in high-quality real estate assets and is one of the largest foreign investors in Japan’s real estate market.

Nippon Life and Blackstone will continue discussions aimed at further strengthening their strategic alliance in the future. Though
