A moderating trend: Global investors are indicating a mild pullback in 2019 allocations to real estate, amidst weakening sentiment

by Loretta Clodfelter

For more than 20 years, Institutional Real Estate, Inc., in conjunction with Kingsley Associates, has surveyed institutional investors to learn their future plans for real estate investment. The results of the most recent annual investor survey were presented to IREI’s sponsoring firms in February and have been published in a special report available to subscribers of Institutional Real Estate Americas.

The 2019 Institutional Investors Real Estate Trends report surveyed 205 investors — its highest total ever — with 134 U.S. investors and 71 non-U.S. investors. The non-U.S. investors are, on average, larger than the U.S. investors, and so the total assets under management of each group were very similar — $4.87 trillion for U.S. investors and $4.65 trillion for non-U.S. investors.
