Meet and greet: Five ideas for better annual investor meetings

When it comes to creating enduring partnerships with real estate limited partners, the annual investor meeting can be a critical tool that is sometimes overlooked. Not only is the meeting a time to review a fund’s strategy and performance, it is also a time for general partners and LPs to share and understand respective concerns and challenges.

Yet, no manual details what a successful annual investor meeting looks like. Zoe Hughes, director of investor communications advisory at Shelter Rock Capital Advisors, wants to change that.

“There are no guides out there telling you how to go about investor relations, so we wanted to [open conversations with investors] and try to get a sense of what the LPs need to get out of an investment meeting,” explains Hughes.

Hughes interviewed 18 individual LPs during fourth quarter 2016 to gauge which, if any, practices could make annual meetings more effective, and valuable, for LPs — and which could help drive LP attend
