London, Dublin top European data centre growth list

Data centre development has been most notable in Dublin and London so far this year, according to a report compiled by data centre research and analytics platform DC Byte and Knight Frank.

The two cities posted second quarter growth of 146 megawatts and 122 megawatts, respectively. For Dublin, this represents a significant expansion, almost matching its total megawatts coverage for 2020. London’s growth in the second quarter matched the pace of its second quarter 2020 growth. London has developed into a major data centre hub in Europe, with Google purchasing a 33-acre property north of London for data centre development last year, and many US public cloud operators are also assessing potential self-build cloud infrastructure expansions in the UK capital.
