This image, coupled with its historic and cultural sig-nificance, has attracted both Germans and foreigners for short trips to Berlin.

On the whole, the number of arrivals in Ger-many rose by 16.7 percent between 2012 and 2017. Overnight stays grew by 12.8 percent during the same period, at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 2.4 percent, representing a total num-ber of 459.5 million visitors in 2017. In comparison, Berlin’s overnight stays went up by 26 percent at a CAGR of 4.8 percent.
