Food for thought: Driving conversations between investors and managers

One way we ensure this publication is, as its tagline claims, “investor-focused” is to meet with an editorial advisory board twice a year. Through facilitated discussions with the members of our board, we are able to identify the topics and questions on which investors are focused. Prior to the most recent meeting, Sept. 12–14 in Dallas, we asked the members of the board for the questions they would like to pose during the event. Although we cannot share everything that was said at the meeting, the following are some of the questions distributed prior to the event as “food for thought” to guide discussions.

Return expectations — What are your views on return expectations for core, core-plus, value-added and opportunistic in the current environment? Are your real estate return expectations realistic in the current environment? How do your real estate return expectations compare to other asset classes against which real estate allocations compete? I
