INREV has launched a European living sector fund index, in response to the continual growth of investor exposure to residential real estate.
The Living Fund index, which is the first of its kind, draws on 25 years of performance data from European residential and student housing funds. It covers a broad range of 12 living subindices, including residential, student housing, closed-end and open-end, as well as single country and a pan-European series.
INREV says the launch of the benchmark reflects the significant expansion of investment activity into residential and student housing. Since 2001, the segment has grown from four funds with a total GAV of €5 billion to more than 50 funds more than €60 billion. Over the past decade, the living sector has not only outperformed other key sectors, such as retail and office, but has also delivered better results than the wider INREV pan-European funds index, both on a short- and long-term basis.
