Office picture remains unclear despite improved usage rates

Office usage rates are improving, but conversely, desk usage statistics indi­ cate that a  return  to "old  normal" working practices remains a long way off.

In its latest European monthly research report, AEW has said it is still too early to con­ clude at what level office demand will finally stabilise as companies define their "new hybrid working practices".

Beyond headline vacancy rates, which appear to have stabilised at below 7 percent, AEW says actual office use statistics show a dif­ ferent picture. Data from Savills, for example, says that less than 44 percent of office workers access their offices across its sample of Euro­ pean multi-let CBD office buildings. In com­ parison, the average share of office workers using office space over the course of a working week in February 2020 was 75 percent.
