A decade on: Celebrating 10 years of a new way to communicate

OMG, it’s been 10 years! This opening line could refer to so many things as so much has transpired in the last decade. Whether it be the global financial crisis, Barack Obama’s election as the 44th President of the United States, or the introduction of quantitative easing across the West, the last decade has delivered some truly world-changing events.

However, there is one development that, on the surface has touched billions of people and, on a much deeper basis, has brought the world much closer together than one is led to believe could be possible these days. What could this be? Well, the anniversary we’re discussing here is the beginning of the emoji linguistics generation.

“Emojis?” you might ask. “Are you serious? What on earth could be impactful about something so apparently shallow?”
