Walton Street Capital has raised an additional $150.3 million for its Walton Street Real Estate Fund VII, according to an SEC filing. The value-added/opportunistic fund launched in 2012 with a $1.5 billion fundraising goal. The firm has not publicly announced a final close for Fund VII.
As of May 1, 2013, the firm had raised $781.6 million, based on SEC Form, 39 percent of its target.
Some media reports have suggested the Walton Street Real Estate Fund VII struggled with its fundraising efforts when other billion-dollar funds were not affected by economic turmoil. However, a comparison with the SEC filings of other billion-dollar funds — such as Blackstone Real Estate Partners VII, Brookfield Strategic Real Estate Partners, Starwood Distressed Opportunity Fund IX and Westbrook Real Estate Fund IX — shows that Walton Street Real Estate Fund VII is raising capital at the same pace as its peer funds.
