by Lewis Dayton

Tufts University’s Total Return Pool (TRP), where most of its long-term assets (both endowment and non-endowment) are invested, generated a 3.5 percent return for the fiscal year that ended on June 30, below its 11.2 percent benchmark.

Over the past three, five and 10 years, the TRP has yielded annualized net returns of 9.0 percent, 6.9 percent and 7.6 percent, respectively, compared with those time periods’ respective benchmarks of 6.5 percent, 6.1 percent and 6.7 percent.

As of June 30, Tuft’s TRP was valued at $2.5 billion. Tufts’ total investments were valued at $3.05 billion, $150.1 million of which are in private real estate and $139.4 million of which are invested in private natural resources.
