Toro Finserve launches $500m healthcare real estate fund

Toro Finserve, an India-based private equity firm, is raising a $500 million fund to invest in real estate for healthcare enterprises. This is the first fund focused on putting money on infrastructure for hospitals and diagnostic companies in India.

India Healthcare Opportunities Fund has already received commitments of $110 million from investors. The fund will have an initial size of $250 million, with additional leverage of $250 million.

Investment opportunities in India’s healthcare industry are huge, due to the limited infrastructure built so far. Reportedly, India requires $200 billion of investments in healthcare infrastructure.

Total investments in India’s real estate sector have increased by 40 percent from $3.8 billion in 2011 to $5.4 billion in 2016, with a bulk of the money invested in core office and residential assets, according to news sources.
