Less uncertainty hovers over the real estate market in 2024, compared with the beginning of 2023. Values are stabilizing, but areas of concern include the office sector, maturities coming due in the multifamily market and some possible value decline due to lessening demand, according to a report by MetLife Investment Management, “U.S. real estate market outlook: Lifting fog,” which was published in the April issue of Institutional Real Estate Americas. “We believe 2024 will be a year of lifting fog for commercial real estate. While that will be a welcome development from the obscurity of 2023, fog can lift to reveal the challenges on the road ahead,” note the report’s authors. “Still, we think the clarity offered by the coming year will be a step in the right direction of healing real estate capital markets.
