Demand in Europe’s cities for residential and self-storage space is rising, with more people moving into and within urban environments that have limited supply of both residential and self-storage assets. These sectors also tend to be dominated by small, local owners, which offers investors a chance to consolidate, explain Stéphanie Bensimon, head of real estate and member of the executive committee at Ardian, and Daniel Noeltner, director in the real estate team at Ardian, in an interview published in the July/August issue of Institutional Real Estate Americas. “The self-storage sector in continental Europe is a niche, high-yielding asset class. There is an increasing investment appetite for the sector, but we are still in the early stages compared with more mature markets, such as the United States or the United Kingdom,” says Bensimon.
