San Joaquin County Employees unveils real estate pacing plan

San Joaquin County Employees Retirement Association (SJCERA) is planning to commit 6 percent to core and 5 percent to noncore real estate as part of its new pacing plan for the asset class.

According to a recent investment report, the pension fund will take a more conservative investing approach that may take a few years to achieve. The new strategy will allow for vintage diversification and is more risk adverse.

The plan will take an adaptive approach to investing based on market trends and opportunities.

“Financial markets continued to advance during the month of July, and the portfolio ended the month with a market value of approximately $3.2 billion,” according to SJCERA staff. “However, because of the sharp drawdown earlier this year, we will need to see continued, significant gains during the remainder of 2020 if SJCERA is to meet its target return assumption
