President Biden intends to nominate Deva A. Kyle as director of PBGC

by Lewis Dayton

President Biden has announced his intention to nominate Deva A. Kyle as the director of the Pension Benefit Guaranty Corporation (PBGC).

Kyle has been serving as an Of Counsel for Cohen, Weiss, and Simon since 2022, where she advises retirement plans, trustees, employee organizations and employers on a wide range of employee benefits matters.

Kyle’s career started with PBGC as an attorney and then as assistant chief counsel in large-exposure litigation and Chapter 11 bankruptcy cases. She went on to become the staff director in the office of policy and external affairs and then the acting deputy of negotiations and restructuring.

She was detailed in 2015 to the U.S. Department of the Treasury, where she crafted the department’s Multiemployer Pension Reform Act as part of a team of experts.

Kyle received her bachelor’s degree in sociology from Vassar College and her J.D. from the Georgetown University Law Center.
