NewPoint Real Estate Capital brings on new managing director

NewPoint Real Estate Capital has appointed Tonya Barnes as managing director, head of closing, based in Irvine, Calif.

Barnes brings more than 30 years of diversified real estate banking experience, having handled closings for a variety of property types, including multifamily, affordable housing, senior housing, manufactured housing and student housing.

Prior to joining NewPoint, Barnes served as executive vice president, overseeing the property management division for multifamily and affordable housing investor Avanath Capital Management — returning to the firm after previously serving as senior vice president.

Barnes also served as vice president and closing manager with KeyBank Real Estate Capital, where she led a team responsible for closing between $4 billion and $6 billion of agency loans on an annual basis.

At NewPoint, she will be responsible for overseeing and streamlining all closing and transaction management activities.
