MP Boston begins $1.35b mixed-use tower in downtown Boston

by Andrea Zander

MP Boston has started the construction of its $1.35 billion mixed-use development, representing the largest private investment for a single project in Boston’s history.

The site was formerly owned by the City of Boston and housed the Winthrop Square Garage.

Set for a spring 2022 completion, Winthrop Center will feature 750,000 square feet of office space, 420 condominiums, retail and restaurants, as well as a public gathering space. Standing approximately 691 feet tall, this project will be Boston’s fourth-tallest building

Winthrop Center will play a key and unprecedented role in Boston’s ongoing progress and economic health. The project will contribute significantly to rejuvenating the downtown core, add both construction and permanent jobs, and invest $163 million in the city, including the direct payment to the City of Boston of $102 million up front, $61 million when the residential units are sold, and significant long-term property taxes.
