How might the office market change by the end of 2021?

by Loretta Clodfelter

One of the biggest open questions during the coronavirus pandemic is what impact it will have on the office industry.

In a market perspective in the October 2020 issue of Institutional Real Estate Americas, Ryan Swehla, principal and co-founder of Graceada Partners, shares five trends that may affect the office market in the years to come.

“The 2020 pandemic changed the way we view working, forever. There is no longer ‘one way’ to work for traditional office-based employees. We now have the technology to be as proficient at home as we once were in the office. With this comes great change,” notes Swehla.

Swehla’s predictions include the rise of secondary cities, a hybrid office model, a reinvigorated co-working sector, better office space for small businesses, and an increase in gig work and freelancing.
