Merlin Entertainments to develop $350m N.Y. Legoland

by Andrea Waitrovich

Merlin Entertainments plans to develop the Northeast’s first Legoland destination resort. The property will be located in Goshen, N.Y., and will include a theme park with educational components for children ages 2 to 12.

The $350 million Legoland will open in 2020, and is expected to attract approximately 2 million visitors annually.

The theme park will occupy 170 acres, creating 1,300 jobs and 800 construction jobs. New York will support the project by investing $18 million, improving the current road infrastructure, upgrading traffic signals and building a bridge over Route 17. The project will also receive $7.1 million in grants through the Regional Economic Development Council Initiative and $8 million through the Upstate Revitalization Initiative.

It will be the third Legoland Park in North America and the largest investment in a single park to date.

Legoland theme parks are located in California and Florida, with the most recently opened worldwide location in Japan.
