Mayfair Capital appoints manager for Thematic Growth Fund

by Released

Mayfair Capital has appointed Giles King as fund manager for its U.K. Thematic Growth Fund and as a member of the company’s management board.

King will be responsible for leading the strategy and acquisitions for the closed-end U.K. Thematic Growth Fund, which has so far raised and invested just under £100 million ($126 million) of equity. Its final closing size is expected to be circa £250 million ($316million). As a member of the U.K. Management Board, King will contribute to shaping the future direction of the company.

King will also support Swiss Life Asset Managers, the owner of Mayfair Capital, to source U.K. co-investment and joint venture opportunities with like-minded international investors.

With its ownership of European investment managers including Mayfair Capital, Corpus Sireo and Beos in Germany, Swiss Life Asset Managers is one of the continent’s largest real estate investment managers with more than £63.8 billion assets under management.

King says: “This role presents me with the opportunity to take on a fund manager’s job in the mainstream of the industry at an exciting time. Beyond any geopolitical and economic uncertainty, there are thematic trends in U.K. property that present opportunities to uncover value. Furthermore, Mayfair [has] a great team and [has] built up a tremendous track record over the last 16 years, which I look forward to continuing and being a part of.”

King joins Mayfair Capital from Westmount, a boutique real estate investment and asset management company he co-founded five years ago with directors Simon Farnsworth, Ian Harris and Simon Smith. King will remain an advisory board member for Westmount, which has approximately £350 million ($442 million) of AUM.

King has worked in the real estate industry for nearly 30 years. Prior to Westmount, he was head of investor relations EMEA for CBRE Global Investors and part of its four-strong EMEA Executive Committee. He also ran the CBRE Global Investors U.K. business between 2008 and 2011.
