Larry Johansen retires as director of investments from New Hampshire Retirement System

Larry Johansen, director of investments for the New Hampshire Retirement System (NHRS), has announced plans to retire in September after more than 12 years at the pension fund.

Johansen has served in the role since January 2010 and was responsible for providing expert investment counsel to the board of trustees and Independent Investment Committee (IIC). During his time at NHRS, Johansen oversaw an investment program that consistently ranked in the top quarter of peer public pension funds.

Under Johansen’s leadership, NHRS’s trust fund assets grew from $4.9 billion on June 30, 2010, to $11.6 billion as of June 30, 2021. The retirement system realized a 29.4 percent return on investments in the fiscal year ending June 30, 2021. The retirement system’s assumed rate of investment return is 6.75 percent.
