R. Stanley Rupnik, an 18-year veteran of the Teachers’ Retirement System (TRS) of the State of Illinois, has been appointed as its new executive director, following a nationwide search for a new leader.
Rupnik has served as acting executive director since August 2020, while retaining his previous role as CIO. He joined TRS from the private sector in 2003 as director of investments and was named CIO in 2004. Between 2009 and 2011, he was acting executive director for TRS.
Director Rupnik holds a bachelor’s degree in economics and a master’s degree in business administration from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.
“We as a board feel very comfortable with the way Stan has managed this wonderful institution,” said Devon Bruce, board president of TRS. “You have done a great job in the last year and will continue to do so.”
