Gothaer commits €500m to Dutch residential mortgage fund

Gothaer Asset Management, a division of German insurer Gothaer, has issued a €500 million ($554 million) mandate to invest in Syntrus Achmea’s Dutch residential mortgage fund.

Gothaer is the fund’s first foreign client, according to Syntrus, a financial institution in Amsterdam, Netherlands. The residential mortgage fund has also been backed by more than 50 institutional investors.

“Last year we decided to open up two of our funds to foreign investors,” said Arthur van der Wal, CEO of Syntrus Achmea. “In addition to the healthcare real estate fund, the residential mortgage fund has now also welcomed its first foreign client: Gothaer Asset Management. This broadens the foundations of both funds, and that’s good news for all the participants.”

The investment builds on an existing relationship between Gothaer and Syntrus, which are both members of Eurapco, an alliance of eight cooperative insurers in Europe.
