The board of Empiric Student Property, an owner and operator of student accommodation across the United Kingdom, has appointed Duncan Garrood as CEO.
Most recently, Garrood was CEO of Ten Entertainment Group, the United Kingdom’s second-largest operator of family entertainment centers and focused on tenpin bowling. Prior to this, Garrood was CEO of Punch Taverns, the U.K. pub and bar operator, navigating its turnaround and sale, after spending six years with MH Alshaya Co., one of the world’s largest licensed retail operators. For five years, he was commercial director at BAA, overseeing the growth of World Duty Free, Lynton Property and the commercial development of Heathrow Terminal 5. Early in his career, Garrood spent 19 years with Unilever in various U.K. and overseas roles, principally in China.
