Editors assess the impacts of COVID-19 on real estate
The spread of the novel coronavirus has destabilized global markets and instigated an economic downturn. In “What now?” in the May 2020 issue of Institutional Real Estate Americas, the editors of Institutional Real Estate, Inc.’s regional publications discussed some of the possible implications of the COVID-19 pandemic for the commercial real estate investment world.
The editors agreed the reactions of central bankers around the world were likely to have significant impacts on commercial real estate.
“Monetary policy is following fiscal policy,” noted Marek Handzel, editor of Institutional Real Estate Europe. “Central banks are supporting governments in this now clearly tough time. We are in one of those rare situations where it appears that governments and banks are going to do everything they can to try and keep economies afloat.”
