Detroit unveils largest residential project in more than 20 years

by Jody Barhanovich

Olympia Development has unveiled the initial phase of residential development at The District Detroit.

This is Detroit’s largest single announcement of new apartment units, affordable units and redeveloped historic buildings in more than 20 years.

“The fact that they are including nearly 140 units of new affordable housing across these six developments aligns perfectly with our efforts to build a city that includes everyone,” said Detroit Mayor Mike Duggan in a statement.

The first phase of residential housing in The District Detroit is to include 686 units total and 139 affordable units across six developments. The plan includes the redevelopment of four existing buildings — The Alhambra, The American, The Eddystone and 150 Bagley — as well as the construction of two new buildings.

The new residential developments in The District Detroit will offer a variety of amenities such as historic building living, in-unit laundry and a tenant notificatio
