Chicago Teachers’ Pension Fund reports highest fiscal year return ever

by Kali Persall

The $13.1 billion Chicago Teachers’ Pension Fund (CTPF) has posted a record-setting 28.68 percent net return on investments for the 2020-2021 fiscal year, exceeding both its benchmark and the 6.75 percent investment assumption.

This is the highest fiscal year close in the history of the fund.

“Our investment team has done an excellent job of navigating a volatile year and implementing our trustees’ investment policy,” said Carlton Lenoir Sr., executive director of CTPF. “While we appreciate these results, we are long-term investors, and we view our performance through that lens. These results demonstrate that our investment policy works and produces results for our members and stakeholders, even during dynamic times.”

CTPF invests prudently in a diversified portfolio designed to weather market volatility over the long term.
